My First Time – Picture Of Health: Bristol Punks Take Aim at Dopamine Culture

My First Time are a Bristol-based punk band formed by Isaac Stroud-Allen (vocals), James Mellen (guitar/vocals), Naia Jones (bass), alongside drummer Jordanna Forsey. The members met while studying at the University of Bristol, bonding over shared musical ambition and chaotic student living — including sofa-surfing that eventually cemented the lineup. Drawing influence from IDLES and other politically charged punk acts, the band have evolved from early indie leanings into a sharper, more abrasive post-punk sound. Known for frenzied live performances and socially observant songwriting, My First Time blend satire, cultural critique and explosive energy into their growing catalogue.

“Picture Of Health” skewers modern dopamine addiction through the lens of a fictional character obsessed with online fitness and financial gurus, chasing empty validation and fleeting highs. Inspired by the dramatic bombast of Bonnie Tyler’s “Holding Out for a Hero” and Madonna’s “Like a Prayer,” the track imagines a false saviour figure numbing heartbreak with cheap thrills and digital escapism. Musically, it bursts open with crashing drums, snarling bass and scuzzy electronic textures — intentionally crafted as a live-set opener. The chorus lands like a verbal punch, with Stroud-Allen’s biting delivery exposing the absurdity of self-optimisation culture. It’s restless, explosive and sharply self-aware.

Why it is trending:Following a standout performance at Best Fit’s Five Day Forecast, “Picture Of Health” marks the band’s first release of 2026 and arrives with renewed momentum. Its critique of hustle culture and performative wellness resonates strongly with Gen Z audiences navigating late-stage capitalism. With its explosive live energy and sharply observational lyrics, the track is positioning My First Time as one of the UK’s most incisive young punk voices right now.
