The Lazy Eyes are a psychedelic rock quartet from Sydney, Australia, formed by Harvey Karate, Itay Shachar and Noah Martin during their time at Newtown High School of the Performing Arts, later joined by bassist Leon Karagic. What began as busking sessions around Sydney evolved into one of Australia’s most exciting modern psych acts. Off the back of their 2020 and 2021 EPs and debut album SongBook, the band sold out shows across Australia’s east coast — even launching their own mini-festival, Lazyfest. Their swirling, shape-shifting sound — blending ’60s psych textures with sharp modern instincts — has earned praise from KCRW, triple j Unearthed, BBC 6 Music, Radio 1 and NME. With tens of thousands of followers and a growing international listener base, The Lazy Eyes continue to expand beyond their Sydney roots.
“The One Who Got Away” leans into the band’s knack for expansive, emotionally charged psychedelia. The track balances dreamy introspection with textured instrumentation, building from reflective verses into a soaring, immersive crescendo. It captures that bittersweet tension between nostalgia and acceptance, framed within lush guitars and fluid transitions that feel both vintage and contemporary. As with much of their work, the song shifts dynamically, pulling listeners through different moods before landing with emotional clarity.
Why it is trending: The single is gaining traction as The Lazy Eyes’ streaming numbers and international recognition continue to grow, particularly across Australia and Mexico. Ongoing radio support from outlets like triple j and BBC 6 Music, combined with their strong live reputation, keeps momentum building around each release. “The One Who Got Away” reinforces their status as one of Australia’s most compelling modern psych-rock exports.
