Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, Public Figures are Evie Vlah, Gigi Argiro, Lakota Vella, and Mary-Lou Hylands, an uncompromising four-piece whose punk combines infectious hooks with songs rooted in identity, power, and resistance. Their debut EP Figure It Out! arrived in February 2026 and quickly accelerated their momentum through a sold-out national tour, a standout Golden Plains appearance, and high-profile shows alongside artists including Amyl and The Sniffers. Now “Push My Buttons” arrives as their first new music since the EP, pushing the band toward an even heavier and more abrasive sound.
Push My Buttons: When Patience Finally Runs Out
“Push My Buttons” is built around the moment frustration becomes refusal. The band describe the song as reaching the end of their patience with repeated bad behaviour—particularly people who continue crossing the same boundaries despite being told otherwise. Rather than internalising that frustration, Public Figures turn it outward, making anger and confrontation central to the track’s emotional force.
That tension is matched by a harder musical attack. Written in May and recorded the following month at Melbourne’s Sundowner Studios, the track was produced by Gigi Argiro, with Samur Khouja—whose credits include Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Strokes, and Dry Cleaning—handling the mix and Simon Berckelman mastering. The result pushes Public Figures beyond the hook-heavy punk of their debut EP into something more abrasive without sacrificing the immediacy that makes their music connect.
