Why it is trending: LULAY’s “Energy” is gaining attention across Australia’s alt-pop and R&B circles for its infectious electronic pulse, confident vocal presence, and a sound that feels both intimate and built for the dancefloor.
LULAY is a Black Australian artist and producer based in Sydney, blending pulsating electronic pop and R&B melodies into a groove-led, emotionally rich sonic world. Inspired by Labrinth’s soul-stirring lyricism, Remi Wolf’s vibrant vocal layering, and Kaytranada’s pocketed rhythms, LULAY fuses these influences with her own lived experiences of Black womanhood to create music that builds community and challenges expectations within the Aus-pop landscape. Working from her part-bedroom, part-studio setup, she was named the inaugural winner of Elevate — an initiative designed to break down systemic barriers and support emerging artists.
“Energy” captures her artistic mission perfectly. Built on slick, rhythm-driven production and layered, expressive vocals, the track radiates confidence while remaining emotionally grounded. There’s a fluidity in the way groove and vulnerability coexist, turning the song into both a vibe and a statement. Having already performed at venues and events like the Lansdowne’s 100-year celebration and “The Cookout” at Common House Studio, and honing her craft through APRA AMCOS songwriting workshops, LULAY is steadily carving out her space — and “Energy” feels like the spark that signals much bigger waves ahead.
