Hyphen is a UK-born rap-punk force blending raw punk aggression with rapid-fire bars and chant-heavy hooks. Born in Portsmouth in July 1993 to Indian parents, he originally studied Philosophy and Economics before stepping into corporate finance — a world that would later fuel the urgency in his music.

What began as an outlet from the grind of finance evolved into a full-throttle artistic identity. Now a recognised name within the UK punk scene, Hyphen is known for explosive live performances — often backed by a six-piece jazz band — bringing brass, chaos, and catharsis into the pit.

He has toured across the UK and Europe alongside acts like Bob Vylan and performed at major festivals including 2000trees, Latitude, and Reading & Leeds. In March 2025, he launched his first full UK headline tour and dropped “This Might Be It,” earning airplay on BBC Radio 1.

“3.5%” channels Hyphen’s signature intensity into a punchy, politically charged anthem. The title hints at collective action — a reference to the idea that small but committed groups can spark systemic change.

Driven by pounding rhythms, snarling delivery, and chant-ready refrains, the track fuses hip-hop cadence with punk volatility. Jazz flourishes add unpredictability, reinforcing the feeling that anything could erupt at any moment.

Why it is trending

With rap-punk gaining renewed traction across the UK alternative scene, Hyphen stands out for combining sharp political commentary with genre-bending musicality. His growing festival presence and Radio 1 support have only amplified attention around new releases.

“3.5%” lands at a moment where socially conscious, high-energy music resonates strongly with younger audiences. It’s urgent, confrontational, and built for sweaty, unified live crowds — proof that Hyphen isn’t just reacting to the scene, he’s shaping it.
