Freight are a rising indie outfit whose story began with a teenage friendship and a bold promise at their local pub. When a landlord challenged frontman Luka to “get a band together” to play the venue’s festival, they approached the slot like it was a stadium headline set — and never looked back. Since then, Freight have steadily built momentum, landing BBC Introducing support and surpassing 16,000 Spotify streams on their single “The Only Thing I Know.” Drawing influence from the melodic craftsmanship of Elton John to the breezy indie charm of The Kooks, the band blend nostalgic lyricism with accessible hooks. With their debut EP Kaleidoscope set for release on November 21, Freight are quickly finding their footing in the UK’s fast-moving indie scene.

“Film Director” continues Freight’s knack for emotionally direct, melody-driven songwriting. The track leans into early-2000s indie textures, pairing warm guitar lines with heartfelt vocals that feel both reflective and immediate. Like their upcoming single “Ivory,” the band’s writing process often unfolds organically — riffs layered with individual influences until the song naturally takes shape. “Film Director” captures that cinematic quality hinted at in its title, evoking fleeting moments, youthful longing and the feeling of watching your own memories play out like scenes on screen.

Why it is trending: As anticipation builds toward Freight’s debut EP Kaleidoscope, new releases like “Film Director” are benefiting from the band’s growing streaming numbers and BBC Introducing exposure. With a developing online following and consistent local buzz, the track signals a band stepping confidently from pub stages toward something much bigger.
