DEADLETTER are a UK alternative/post-punk outfit originally formed in 2020 by lifelong friends Zac Lawrence (vocals), Alfie Husband (drums), and George Ullyott (bass); the group has since expanded into a six-piece exploring winding lyrical narratives and genre-fluid instrumentals. Their sound draws on influences as wide as LCD Soundsystem, The Stranglers, Captain Beefheart, and Can, blending post-punk energy with art-rock intrigue and experimental flourishes.
The band’s critically acclaimed debut album Hysterical Strength showcased their ability to intertwine intensity and nuance, with Zac’s hypnotic delivery becoming a defining characteristic of their live and recorded work. With a reputation growing across the UK underground and a widening audience abroad, DEADLETTER are emerging as one of the most compelling voices in new post-punk-leaning rock.
“It Comes Creeping” is the second single from their upcoming sophomore album Existence Is Bliss (due 27 February 2026 via So Recordings), and represents one of the band’s most polished and ambitious tracks to date.
The song captures a haunting theme — the idea of a spectre that haunts everyone differently, reflecting the creeping pressures and fears that follow us through life. Frontman Zac Lawrence explains that the song isn’t about the spectre itself, “but the way in which it does so.”
Musically, “It Comes Creeping” holds onto DEADLETTER’s post-punk roots while folding in genre-defying elements that make it both accessible and richly textured — from rhythmic grooves to unexpected sonic twists that keep listeners engaged. Critics have noted its indie-rock core enhanced with experimental touches, with the track described as gripping and rhythmically compelling.
As the band prepares to launch Existence Is Bliss and hit the road across the UK and Europe, “It Comes Creeping” stands as a strong preview of what’s next: a bold, thoughtful exploration of sound, emotion, and the forces that shape us.
