Laptop is the project of New York musician and filmmaker Jesse Hartman, known for his sardonic, synth-driven pop that blends dry humor with sharp social commentary. Emerging in the early 2000s, Laptop became a cult favorite for witty, ironic tracks that explored modern absurdities over sleek, electronic backdrops. After years away from the spotlight, Hartman has revived Laptop with fresh material, now joined by a full band, and is set to make his first UK live appearance in over two decades in October 2025.

“Additional Animals,” released on August 8, 2025, is one of the standout tracks from Laptop’s new album On This…. Built on shimmering synths, bright horns, and crisp guitar touches, the song imagines a bizarre yet unsettling premise: a world running out of meat and the societal chaos that might follow. Its chorus—“Please send our way / Additional animals”—is delivered with a mix of desperation and deadpan humor, creating a surreal dinner-table conversation between two generations. The track is both whimsical and oddly poignant, wrapping existential anxiety in a deceptively catchy package.
