Royal Republic is a Swedish rock band known for their unique style that rejects traditional rock clichés and instead embraces weird, awesome flavor combinations. The band's music is an irresistible blend of sass, heavy riffs, and clever puns. The current lineup features Adam Grahn on "silky voice" and production, Hannes Irengård on "dirty telecaster," Jonas Almén on "groovy sweat-dripping bass lines," and Per Andreasson on "intelligently dumb drum beats". Their distinct sound has been humorously compared to "whipped cream and caviar" and a "sweaty one-night stand between Metallica and Michael Bolton". They recently released their fifth studio album, LoveCop (in 2024), produced by Grahn and Michael Ilbert at Hansa Studios.
"Go West" is the final single from Royal Republic's "The Blastbeaters" EP. The EP was a fictitious black metal side-project that quickly grew into a full-blown saga of "absurdity and sincerity". The song is a cover of the Village People's disco classic "Go West". In typical Royal Republic fashion, they reinvented the disco anthem into a soaring, over-the-top power ballad. The band replaced the original disco beats with sweeping orchestral strings, creating a track that is equal parts epic, hilarious, and soaked in "champagne and glitter". The single's release in November 2025 closed the chapter of "The Blastbeaters" saga.
