Courting are a post-punk and art-punk influenced band from Liverpool, England, formed in 2018 and made up of vocalist Sean Murphy-O’Neill, drummer Sean Thomas, guitarist Joshua Cope and bassist Connor McCann. They’ve released several records over a relatively short career span, including their debut Guitar Music (2022), New Last Name (2024) and their third studio album Lust for Life, Or: ‘How to Thread The Needle and Come Out The Other Side To Tell The Story’ (2025), blending gritty indie rock with experimental electronic layers and a flair for clever, vivid storytelling.
“Pause at You” was released on 21 November 2024 as the lead single from Lust for Life. The track is characterised by its catchy, rhythmic interplay of heavy bass, driving drums and a fast, funk-tinged guitar riff that gives the song a dance-punk energy while maintaining indie rock grit. Singer Sean Murphy-O’Neill has described the song as a culmination of the band’s evolving style — melding night-time paranoia with euphoric, almost ecstatic rock energy — and it exemplifies Courting’s ambition to make direct, visceral music that hits with immediacy.
Critically, “Pause at You” has been recognised for its infectious immediacy and confident swagger, marking it as a strong point in the band’s catalogue and a highlight in their live sets due to its punchy hooks and danceable propulsion.
