Headwreck – Raindrops: Brisbane Nu-Metal’s Global Breakout Moment

Headwreck have just made one of the most significant moves in Australian heavy music this decade, signing to EMPIRE — becoming the first nu-metal act to join a roster that has included Kendrick Lamar, Anderson .Paak, and Shaboozey.

The Brisbane quartet — Connor Hickman (vocals), Jamo Benadie (guitar), Dayne Paix (bass), and Colby Horton (drums) — have been building steadily. Their ARIA-charting album Attitude Adjustment debuted at #7 on the Australian Album Charts and #9 on the Vinyl Charts. They’ve amassed over 3.5 million streams, supported heavyweights like Northlane, The Amity Affliction, Polaris, and Thornhill, and sold out their debut headline tour across Melbourne, Sydney, and Brisbane.

Named a triple j Unearthed Forecast Artist for 2026, Headwreck aren’t just rising — they’re accelerating.

“Raindrops” is their first release since Attitude Adjustment and arrives with sharpened intensity. Textured production collides with chunky, downtuned guitars, punchy drum grooves, and a volatile mix of melodic and aggressive vocals.

Lyrically, the track explores the chaos of being unable to let go of someone toxic — emotional fixation delivered with the same unpredictable energy that defines their live shows. It’s nu-metal at its core, but stretched into modern territory, blending metalcore weight with alternative and electronic-driven edges.

Premiered on triple j Drive to an instantly buzzing textline, “Raindrops” sounds like a band fully aware they’ve levelled up.

Why It Is Trending: Australia’s Heavy Scene Just Got a Global Co-Sign

The EMPIRE signing is more than symbolic — it signals serious global intent. As Director of A&R Peter Kim noted, Headwreck possess the “rawness and intensity” to break internationally.

With an ongoing EU/UK tour supporting Paledusk, upcoming headline dates, an appearance at Download Festival (Donington Park), and Australian dates supporting Bury Tomorrow later this year, the rollout feels strategic and perfectly timed.

Nu-metal’s resurgence continues to evolve, and Headwreck sit at its cutting edge — fusing early-2000s heaviness with contemporary production and DIY creative control. “Raindrops” isn’t just a new single. It’s a declaration: this is only the beginning.
