White Lies are an English indie rock band from Ealing, London, formed in October 2007. The core members are Harry McVeigh (lead vocals, guitar), Charles Cave (bass guitar, backing vocals, lyrics), and Jack Lawrence-Brown (drums). They perform live as a four-piece, joined by Tommy Bowen.

Known for their distinctive blend of post-punk revival, new wave, and alternative rock, White Lies create atmospheric, often melancholic, and grand soundscapes. Their music is characterized by Harry McVeigh's commanding baritone vocals, atmospheric arrangements, prominent synth lines, and lyrical themes often focused on existential questions, death, loss, and interpersonal relationships. They quickly rose to prominence with their 2009 debut album, To Lose My Life..., which hit number one on the UK Albums Chart, and have since released several critically acclaimed albums, including Ritual (2011), Big TV (2013), Friends (2016), Five (2019), and As I Try Not to Fall Apart (2022).

"In The Middle" is the propulsive lead single from White Lies' upcoming seventh studio album, "Night Light," which is scheduled for release on November 7, 2025, via PIAS Recordings. The single itself was officially released on July 16, 2025, and is accompanied by an official music video.

Lyrically, "In The Middle" is a reflective track about personal change and transitioning into a new emotional headspace. The band revealed that the lyrics for the verses had been sitting in old notebooks for nearly a decade, waiting for the right musical "vessel." This suggests a long-gestating theme about navigating personal evolution. It's described as a song about "moving, not necessarily moving on, but moving to another emotional place needed for growth." This conveys a sense of introspection and the journey of self-discovery that comes with life's shifts.
