Suede, known as The London Suede in the United States, is an iconic English alternative rock band formed in London in 1989. Comprising Brett Anderson (vocals), Mat Osman (bass), Simon Gilbert (drums), Richard Oakes (guitars), and Neil Codling (keyboards), they quickly became one of the most celebrated acts of the 1990s.
Drawing heavily from glam rock and post-punk, Suede's sound is characterized by Brett Anderson's distinctive flamboyant vocals, Bernard Butler's (and later Richard Oakes') melodic guitar playing, and a theatrical sensibility. They were instrumental in launching the Britpop movement, though they often distanced themselves from the label, preferring a darker, more introspective artistic path. After a hiatus, they reformed in 2010 and have continued to release critically acclaimed music, pushing their sound forward while retaining their signature dramatic flair.
"Dancing With The Europeans" is the third single from Suede's highly anticipated tenth studio album, "Antidepressants," which is set to arrive on September 5, 2025, via BMG. The single, a "sparkling Brit-rock track," was officially released on July 28, 2025, and is accompanied by a music video directed by Chris Turner.
Lyrically, "Dancing With The Europeans" is described as an optimistic anthem about searching for and finding connection in an increasingly disconnected world. Frontman Brett Anderson revealed that the inspiration came from a memorable gig in Spain during a personally difficult time. He reflected on the powerful "connection between me and the audience," and how that experience transcended his individual struggles. The phrase "Dancing With The Europeans" came to symbolize this unifying power of shared human experience, breaking down barriers and fostering a collective spirit.
