The Rooks are a five-piece indie/rock band from Glasgow, Scotland. They have quickly established themselves on the local live circuit, aiming to re-ignite the spirit of rock 'n' roll. The band comprises Ross Gardiner (lead vocals), Cameron McKie (guitarist), Matthew McFadyen (guitarist), Kieran Luddy (bassist), and Coll McKinnon (drummer). The band members met at school, with Ross initiating the group in a school music cupboard. Kieran Luddy joined after their initial show was rescheduled due to the pandemic.

They are known for their ability to balance rough, melodic riffs and basslines with nostalgic, direct hooks and verses. The Rooks draw influences from bands like The Strokes, Kings of Leon, The Rolling Stones, and Stereophonics, filtering these through a contemporary lens. They've already gained significant attention, including support slots for major acts like Blossoms and Dylan John Thomas on sold-out UK tours, and have even caught the ear of Lewis Capaldi and Stereophonics frontman Kelly Jones. They consistently deliver a fresh, magnetic energy on stage.

"Right About Now" is the latest single from The Rooks, released on May 7, 2025. For this track, they reunited with long-time collaborator and GRAMMY Award-winning producer Jim Lowe (known for his work with Foo Fighters, Stereophonics, and more).

"Right About Now" is described as a song that "packs a punch" and sonically sees the band leaning into their grittier rock strengths. Frontman Ross Gardiner explained that for this recording, they experimented with a different studio process, tracking most of it live after having played it extensively during their live shows for a couple of months. While specific detailed lyrical themes aren't fully outlined, the title itself suggests an urgency or immediacy. Given their other work, "Right About Now" likely taps into emotional and introspective themes characteristic of their style, delivered with their signature energetic and anthemic approach.
