The Molotovs are an explosive indie punk rock band from the North West of England, primarily composed of siblings Mathew Cartlidge (lead vocals, guitar, songwriter) and Issey Cartlidge (bass, backing vocals), with Noah Riley on drums. Formed in early 2023, they swiftly gained attention for their raw energy, sharp haircuts, and even sharper suits, reminiscent of a mod revival.
Their sound blends the raw power of punk with the clever lyricism of the mod revival era and the infectious melodies of early 2000s UK indie rock, drawing comparisons to The Libertines and The Jam. The Molotovs have built a formidable live reputation, supporting punk icons like the Sex Pistols (including at the Royal Albert Hall for the Teenage Cancer Trust), Blondie, and even earning praise from Green Day. They've completed their first UK tour and are set to support the Sex Pistols on their North American tour starting in September 2025. Their music is described as "anti-complacency" and a "call to arms" for youth to reclaim their agency.
"Today's Gonna Be Our Day" is a new single by The Molotovs, officially released on June 20, 2025. It serves as an anthem for their upcoming debut album, "Wasted On Youth," which is scheduled for release on January 30, 2026, via Marshall Records. A limited edition 7-inch vinyl of the single also features the B-side "No Time To Talk."
Lyrically, "Today's Gonna Be Our Day" is a powerful message of defiance, optimism, and youthful empowerment. As frontman Mathew Cartlidge explains, it's an "anti-complacency song" and a "call to arms for my generation to keep the faith and reject apathy, recognising that it's our time and our turn to make it better."
The song acknowledges challenges like climate change and a divided world but maintains a determined and hopeful stance. Musically, "Today's Gonna Be Our Day" embodies The Molotovs' signature style: a frenzied, invigorating blend of fast-paced, melodic punk rock instrumentation that perfectly complements its empowering and urgent lyrical message.
