The Clause is a four-piece indie rock band from Birmingham, UK. Formed by school friends Pearce Macca (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), Jonny Fyffe (bass), and Niall Fennell (drums), they completed their lineup with guitarist Liam Deakin. They describe their sound as a fusion of "the swagger of the 60s, the rolling groove of the 80s, and the riotous verve and attitude of the 90s," effortlessly combining huge hooks with gritty verses. Their music blends indie sensibilities with rhythm and blues grooves and melodies, creating anthems "destined for stadiums and packed festival main stages."
The band is known for their energetic live performances and has amassed significant achievements, including sold-out headline shows, supporting major acts like The Reytons and DMA'S, playing at Radio 1's Big Weekend, and achieving iTunes Rock Chart #1s. They've also received extensive support from BBC Radio 1, 6 Music, and X. Their philosophy centers on finding the good in the bad and converting it into music that makes people "feel alive." Their debut album, Victim Of A Casual Thing, is highly anticipated.
"Elisha" is a supremely catchy new single by The Clause, officially released on July 11, 2025. It is the second single to be released from their forthcoming debut album, "Victim Of A Casual Thing," which is set for release on October 17, 2025.
Lyrically, "Elisha" is a deeply personal and vulnerable track, described by vocalist Pearce Macca as "a diary entry that was never meant to be read." The song is a "bittersweet anthem about the one who never really let go of my heart," capturing the "ache of still being tethered to my first love." It explores the lingering feelings of a past romance that blossomed in ordinary circumstances (even "behind a Wetherspoon in Leeds"), and the struggle to move on or feel the same way about anyone else. The lyrics convey a sense of clinging to teenage memories "like an addict who can't get clean," alongside doubts about whether the other person ever felt the same.
