Big Special is a two-piece indie-punk duo from the Black Country, England, formed by Joe Hicklin (vocals, guitar) and Callum Moloney (drums). Following the success of their debut album Postindustrial Hometown Blues in 2024, which entered the UK Top 40, they've continued to carve out their niche with unapologetic commentary, raw energy, and a clear working-class identity. Their music embraces a punk ethos with touches of funk and dark humor. The surprise release of their second album, National Average, in early July 2025 further solidifies their status as bold voices in UK rock, ready to take their message nationwide via extensive touring.
“YESBOSS.” is the eighth track from National Average, running approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds. It delivers a sharp, visceral critique of modern work culture—the monotony of unwanted jobs, lack of appreciation, and relentless drudgery. With punchy, driving guitars and Moloney’s propulsive drumming, Joe Hicklin’s lyrics cut straight to the bone: “All work is hard work…having a boss is always degrading.” The song's title echoes forced compliance, while its intense sound captures the frustration of being trapped in a job just to get by. Fans on Album of the Year have awarded it a stellar 95/100, reflecting the track's resonance and impact.
