Wednesday is an alternative rock band from Asheville, North Carolina, fronted by vocalist and songwriter Karly Hartzman. Since forming in 2017, with a lineup that includes lap steel, shoegaze, and country pop influences, the band has built a distinct sound blending dreamy textures with southern-rooted storytelling. With albums like Rat Saw God, Wednesday has evolved into a compelling and fearless voice in modern indie rock, praised for their ability to merge raw emotion with atmospheric grit.
“Bitter Everyday”“Bitter Everyday” is the fourth and final single from Wednesday’s upcoming album Bleeds, set for release in September 2025 via Dead Oceans. The track was inspired by a moment in 2019, when a houseless woman arrived on the band’s porch at 3 a.m. and sang a song she had written. That encounter became the seed for a piece of music that meditates on empathy, memory, and the fragile beauty found in unexpected human connections. The chorus pays tribute to Iris DeMent’s Easy’s Gettin’ Harder Everyday, layering resonance and intertextual depth into the song’s narrative.
