"The Last Week of September" (L'ultima settimana di settembre) is a 2024 drama film directed by Gianni De Blasi, based on the novel of the same name by Lorenzo Licalzi. The film explores the relationship between a grandfather and his grandson, who are forced to live together and get to know each other following a family tragedy. Pietro Rinaldi, played by Diego Abatantuono, is an elderly, widowed writer battling depression. On his birthday, he plans to end his life but is interrupted by devastating news: the sudden death of his daughter and son-in-law in a car accident. Pietro is left to care for his teenage grandson, Mattia (Biagio Venditti). Together, they embark on a journey that forces them to confront their grief, rediscover themselves, and build a bond that had previously been nonexistent. The film has received generally positive reviews. Claudia Catalli of MYmovies.it awarded it three out of five stars, describing it as "a tender and poignant road movie that is also a generational confrontation."
