Movie of the Day: Europe (2022) by Philip Scheffner

Philip Scheffner, the author of Havarie (presented in-competition during the 16th New Horizons), once again takes up the subject of migration and gives his story a bold visual form. While in the aforementioned documentary the director listened to the voices of a dozen or so migrants sailing in a small boat from Africa to Europe, he now gives voice and space to mainly one character - Zohra from Algeria. Due to a severe case of scoliosis, the woman has come to France for treatment, and she wants to stay there and make a life for herself. Depending on how the story unfolds, the camera moves towards the main character, taking a closer look at her everyday life and her emotions - determination, insecurities and fears.
